THE BAMBOO CUP SET
This casting project is intended to introduce natural forms into everyday life and design a cup set with contrast.
Starting with simple form language exploration, The first stage of this project is to sketch out several cup forms with different iterations of contrast, either the contrast of materials, textures, and shapes.
Inspired by the natural shape of bamboo and its inner fiber texture, the final form is decided. A series of 3D printed sketch model is created to test with the size of the cup, the ratio between different textures and the design of textures.
To start with the casting process, a rubber model is necessary to help create the wax model could be used for casting. After multiple attempts of making wax model, six final pieces are ready to be send to casting. The rough casting cups are cleaned and sand blasted, ready to be electroplated to be food safe.
The final cups are made with bronze main body and gold plated.
The renderings of the cups represent the silver version of the final design.
